Family Digital Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on the belief that the family is the most formative institution in any civilization — and that technology should serve that truth, not undermine it.

Our Mission
Rebuilding the foundation of society, one family at a time.

We exist to build technology that strengthens families: tools that protect privacy, reinforce trust, and make the shared life of a household easier to sustain. We are not competing for your family’s attention. We are building something they can rely on.

Why a nonprofit
Mission can govern what metrics should not.

Most technology is built to extract: attention, data, loyalty, revenue. A nonprofit structure allows us to build differently — toward the family’s flourishing rather than the market’s return.

Our decisions are guided by mission, not by engagement metrics. Our users are not the product. The families who trust us with their conversations, decisions, and memories are our reason for existing.

Nonprofit status also allows us to receive tax-deductible contributions from donors who share our conviction: that families deserve better tools, and that building them is a form of public good.

Our framework
Everything we build is organized around three dimensions that make a family durable.

Boundaries
The decisions that protect time and attention. Screen-free meals, consistent weekly rhythms, tools that know when to step back. Boundaries give family life its shape.
Bonds
The relationships that hold through the hard parts. Built by showing up, listening, and choosing each other consistently. Bonds are what turn affection into something that lasts.
Legacy
The values, memories, and stories a family carries forward. Not just what you leave behind — what you pass on while you’re still here.
